NAVASOTA TEXAS
Navasota is in southeastern Grimes County. It was first named Hollandale for Francis Holland, who bought land in the area in 1822. It became Nolansville, a stage stop in the 1830s where James Nolan build a log cabin located near where the La Bahia Road crossed the Navasota River and halfway between Washington-on-the-Brazos and Anderson. Grimes County was created on April 6, 1846. The county was named in honor of Jesse Grimes who was a signator of the Texas Declaration of Independence. A post office was established and in 1854 and the name was changed to Navasota after the river. The railroad came to Navasota and it began to grow in population.
