The CAGED System
The fretboard can be very mysterious unless of course you know what I'm about to show you in this lesson. Since the guitar's notes are not arranged as clearly as on the piano, where you have simple sequence of black and white keys that repeats itself every octave, we need a different way of organizing the notes on the guitar. That's where the CAGED system comes in.
Spice Up Your Playing - Barre Chords - Part II
Last month we looked at the basic E shape and A shape major and minor barre chords. Let's look at the Major 7th, Minor 7th and Dominant 7th barre chords now.
Style File - Rock - Part II
Last month we had a quick introduction into the world of Rock. We mainly looked at power chords and how you can use the same shape to play a variety of basic riffs. This month I thought it would be good to put together a bunch of riffs so that you can explore some of the different genres of rock.
Technical Difficulties
This month I have two cool exercises for you. For the first one you'll need your guitar and a fair bit of patience and concentration. The second one can be done without the guitar and it will definitely improve your left and right hand coordination.
Album Of The Month - The Calling
Taking a detour from his main job as lead guitar for Journey, the multi-talented Neal Schon has put the finishing touches on his latest solo album, The Calling - released by Frontiers Records in the UK on Monday 22nd October. Produced by and featuring Schon on all guitars and bass, The Calling reunites Schon with former Journey bandmate, Steve Smith, who lends his virtuoso drum talents to all 12 tracks on the new album.
