Classical Guitar - Bouree
Before we get to this month's classical tune I have a little damaging admission to make so here goes... I'm not a classical guitarist by any stretch of imagination and to be honest I'm hacking my way through these classical pieces. I'm not using traditional techniques, posture or fingering like you'd expect to see with a proper classically trained guitarist and I could certainly do with hours of practice.
Style File - Funk
For the next couple of installments of the Style File series we'll be turning our attention to funk guitar. Learning to play funk guitar will have a massive impact on your rhythm guitar skills plus you'll be learning some funky chords to add to your chord vocabulary.
Technical Difficulties - Chromatic Exercise
This month features yet another chromatic exercise that will do wonders for your technique. When practicing this one you'll get a chance to play across all six strings right from the first position all the way up to the 12th position which means you'll be playing across both the big and small frets so it's definitely one to keep.
Classic Riffs - Always On The Run
This is a great example of funk rock and the original studio recording features a killer solo by none other than rock guitar god, Slash. It's a heavily syncopated rock riff so make sure you nail the rhythm by starting off slowly at first before speeding it up.
Compose Your Own Rock Riffs
While I was living and studying in London I had the privilege of interviewing one of my childhood heroes, Mr. Joe Satriani. He truly is one of the greatest guitar players alive and he graciously shared many profound insights with me during those 45 minutes.
Spice Up Your Playing - DADGAD Tuning
One way to spice up your acoustic guitar playing is by discovering new voicings and embellishments across the neck. This will allow you to not be stuck in the open position all the time enabling you to freely explore the rest of the neck.
